Oakhill United 1 Trinity Reserves 4
(SSEC Junior League 3rd Division Final Fixture)
Well, dear readers, it's been a long and gruelling season and it ended just as it began - Oakhill slumped to defeat to slightly better opponents, spurned chances, conceded set piece goals, made sloppy mistakes, fought like madmen and drank beer afterwards at the Goodies. If God liked footie, he'd support Oakhill United.......
Logan was in goal, Philpinho covered Brazilian right-back duties and Pugsy was on the left. Dave 'Centre-Back is my natural position' Holt played at Centre-Back with Joel and Johnny Holt screened in front. Elzie was flanked by Harris and Mikey D and Andy Redmond celebrated the long-awaited return of Superboy up front next to him in the Lycra pant.
Good game, very well reffed for once. Oppo were quality, some individuals quite annoying (No.2, No.8, the 12 year old wearing No.12) but mostly deserved Champions. Comedy classic from Dave and Logan for Trinity goal 2 was matched by Goalkeeping keepy-up taxi moment for Oakhill Goal 1. Injuries left right and centre meant we finished with a High Trust traitor (Matt 'Hally' Hunt) and the heartbeat of the club(Beigeinho) forming an uneasy alliance in the heart of midfield - the latter carrying out a trademark 'job' on the mouthy man of the match in Trinity colours.
About six one-on-one saves, a cracking kicking game and the final realisation that he is scary to the oppo as well as us when coming out for corners meant Logan claimed the final vintage from Mr Mitchell's wine cellar for this season. Fair do's to Holtie, Harris, Elz and Joel for playing through the pain barrier in a meaningless fixture. Bottle that graft for next season and we'll be back up in no time, boys.......
